Spanish for Preschoolers...

Last week Jak learned the spanish words "Rojas" (red) and "circulo" (circle) in school. Ever since then, Jak points out everthing that is rojas. We will be driving down the road and all I can hear coming from the back seat is "rojas light, rojas car, rojas sign, rojas store....." One evening we pulled into the church parking lot for church school and Jak goes up to some random guy and says "HEY!! Your car is rojas!" The poor guy didn't know what rojas meant so he wasn't sure what to say. I had to tell him what it meant and then he smiled and laughed.

Daddy thought it would be a funny trick to teach Jak the word for green, Verde. NOW..instead of only pointing out red, Jak yells "VERDE,ROJAS,VERDE,VERDE,VERDE,VERDE,VERDE,ROJAS,VERDE,VERDE,VERDE,VERDE...." Of course everything outside is verde. Trees, grass..etc. Thanks, Daddy.

I'm full....

Eva is definitely one of a kind. When she is tired of something, she doesn't just say I'm tired...She says "I'm full" of whatever it is. For example, when she is tired of walking or riding her bike she will say "my legs are full" OR...when she is tired of sitting in her car seat she will say that her back is full. Eva was the flower girl in my sisters wedding. She was suppose to stand up in the front during the ceremony with me and the other bridesmaids. After about 5 minutes of standing up there she got really restless and then loudly stated "I'm full of standing here!!!" Nice. It was hilarious! Lately, I have been trying to teach the kids to "listen" to their bellies when they are eating...and stop when their belly say that it is full. Today when I told Eva that I wasn't going to carry her and she had to walk..she said to me "mommy, but my belly says my legs are full" Oh gees, really eva?!?!

Jak explains the blue-green algae problem at Cheney..

This summer there have been several lakes that have banned swimming/boating due to a toxic blue-green algae bloom. Apparently, if you were to ingest this algae it can make you sick and in some cases it can be deadly. Scary, eh?

Recently, Cheney Lake has tested positive for the algae and has banned swimming until further notice. A couple days ago Jak was standing at the fence in the backyard talking to his friend, neighbor Cole. Cole is in 2nd grade...and Jak thinks that Cole and his twin brother Gavin are the COOLEST!!! They were talking for the longest time..and when Jak came inside I asked him what they had been chatting about. He says "Cole said that there is this blue thing in Cheney lake and if you jump in when you get out the blue thing will make you have diarrhea. I think that is yucky and i NEVER want to swim in Cheney lake again!" It took some explaining, but I think I convinced Jak that it will be okay to swim in there again sometime after the algae is gone.

A summer for the record books...

It has been a really, REALLY HOT summer. Yesterday we had our 50th day of triple digit temperatures. To be exact...yesterday was 108 degrees. HOOOOOTTTT!!!! Today we are already on pace for day #51. That would break the record for number of triple digit temps in one summer. It is only 7:45am and it is already 82 degrees...ugh. Yesterday when we walked out of the grocery store into a wall of hot air, Jaks started whining. I asked him what was wrong, and he said "Mommy, it is so hot. It is NOT a beautiful day." Ugh, Jak. You would be correct. We are all very ready for fall at this house!!!

Brutally Honest....

Last night I decided to cut my hair. It wasn't just a regualar haircut...I chopped it off. I went from having hair long enough to put in a pony tail..to darn near a pixie cut. When I returned home, Eva looked at me weird. Before I could say anything she says "Mommy, your hair looks silly" I asked her if she like it, she said "no." I'm not gonna lie...I was a little disappointed that she didn't like it.

I thought maybe she would have a change of heart when I showered and styled it myself. So after I finished doing my hair I walked up to her and said "Well, Eva, what do you think of my hair now??" She looks at me for a while then says "mommy, you almost look like a boy. It's not very pretty, but I still love you" WOW! That one stung a little...BUT, you have to appreicate the honesty of a 3 year old.

It begins early in the morning....

This morning Jak and Eva jumped into bed with me. We laid in bed for a few minutes while we were trying to wake up. Jak and Eva had the cutest conversation. It went something like this...

Jak: "I tried to tickle my chin, but it doesn't tickle."
Eva: "Well, my chin doesn't tickle either"
Jak: "When I tickle Ela's chin, she laughs alot, but it doesn't work on us"
Eva: "Jak, why doesn't it work for us?"
Jak: "Well, maybe when you get big your chin just doesn't tickle anymore"

I just LOVE listening to Jak and Eva have conversations!!! I wish I could record them all...and I will definitely try!
